펜실베니아 대학교 (University of Pennsylvania) 총장인 President Amy Gutmann이 발표하길 $750M 를 innovative and impactful 4가지 분야 medicine, public health, science, and technology에 투자하겠다고 밝혔다. 5년동안 scientific research 투자될 분야는
- Novel therapeutics and health-related initiatives
- Energy and sustainability
- Data engineering and science
- Infrastructure to support physical science research
의료와 과학기술 분야에 투자로 펜실베니아 대학의 과학, 공학, 의학 분야를 발전시키고 시대를 앞서나가는 리서치를 진행하겠다는게 총장의 연설이다.
이번 투자로 인해 중요한 과학 분야에서 펜실베니아 대학이 선위를 점하는 기회가 될것이라고 밝혔다.
School of Engineering and Applied Science는 Data Engineering and Science (IDEAS)를 이끌게 될 예정이고 3개의 리서치 분야 (scientific discovery and experimentation; design and engineering of autonomous systems; and methodologies to understand the human brain)에 집중한다고 밝혔다.
Health area에서는 Eidos LGBT+ Health Initiative (School of Nursing, innovation hub for public health focused on sexual and gender minorities) 가 만들어질 예정이고, The Energy and Sustainability Initiative는 School of Arts & Sciences가 이끄는 diversifying energy sources and storage; energy efficiency and sustainability; and monitoring, sequestering, and transforming climate-changing pollutants 프로그램이 만들어질 예정이다.
